Dial-X

Last updated: 6 August 2026

Short version: Dial-X collects absolutely no personal data. Everything you save — favourites, recents, custom codes, theme preference — stays on your device only. No accounts, no servers, no tracking — ever.

1. Overview

Dial-X ("the App", "we", "our") is a fully offline mobile application that helps South African users quickly find, copy, and dial USSD codes across telecoms, banking, government & social services, retail & utilities, and universal device/hardware codes. This privacy policy explains our data practices — or more accurately, our lack thereof.

We built this app with privacy as a first principle: there is no backend, no user accounts, no analytics SDK, and no network requests of any kind initiated by the App.

2. Information We Collect

We collect no information whatsoever.

Dial-X does not collect, transmit, store on any server, or share any personal information, usage data, device identifiers, or analytics of any kind.

Specifically, we do not collect:

  • Names, email addresses, or contact information
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Location data
  • Usage statistics or crash reports
  • USSD codes you dial or save
  • Banking, SASSA, or other account details you may enter into a provider's own USSD session
  • Any other personal or non-personal data

3. Local Storage (On-Device Only)

The App saves certain preferences locally on your device, using on-device storage (AsyncStorage). This data never leaves your device and is inaccessible to us or any third party.

What is storedPurposeLimit
FavouritesUSSD codes you mark as favourite, across any category20 max
RecentsRecently used codes for quick access10 most recent
Custom shortcutsUSSD codes you create yourselfUnlimited
Theme preferenceYour light / dark / system display setting1 value

You can clear all locally stored data at any time by uninstalling the App — since nothing is stored on any server, uninstalling is a complete and permanent deletion of your data. There is no remote backup and no "contact us to delete your data" flow, because we never had it in the first place.

4. Permissions We Use

Dial-X requests the minimum access needed to copy and dial codes, and nothing more:

  • Clipboard — used only when you tap "Copy" on a code, so you can paste it elsewhere.
  • Phone / `tel:` URL scheme — used only when you tap "Dial", to open your device's native Phone app with the code pre-filled.

Both are user-initiated actions triggered by a direct tap — the App never accesses the clipboard or dialer in the background. We do not request camera, location, contacts, or microphone access.

5. Third-Party Services

Dial-X does not integrate any third-party services. To be explicit, since app store privacy labels require a positive declaration:

  • No analytics SDKs (e.g. Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude)
  • No advertising networks
  • No crash reporting services (e.g. Sentry, Bugsnag)
  • No social login providers
  • No cloud storage or sync services
App store "data collection" declarations for Dial-X read: Data Not Collected.

6. Third-Party Brand Names

Dial-X's code directory references the names of banks, mobile networks, retailers, and government services (for example Absa, FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Capitec, TymeBank, African Bank, Old Mutual, Postbank/SASSA, Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom, Shoprite/Checkers, Pick n Pay, Vodapay, insurers, and Eskom) purely for identification, so you can find the right code. Listing a provider does not imply any partnership, endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation between Dial-X, Atomus Dev, and that provider.

USSD codes belonging to third parties are subject to change by those providers at any time, without notice to us. We do our best to keep the directory current, but always confirm an unfamiliar or unexpected code with your provider directly before use.

7. Children's Privacy

Because we collect no data from any user, Dial-X is safe for users of all ages and is rated 4+ on the App Store. As no personal data is collected from anyone, including children, no special children's-data handling procedures are required under COPPA or equivalent regulations.

8. POPIA (South Africa)

Dial-X is built for South African users, so we note our position under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) explicitly: because the App does not collect, process, store remotely, or share any personal information, there is no personal information for POPIA to govern in relation to your use of this App. All data handling described in this policy happens entirely on your own device.

9. Data Deletion

Since every piece of data the App stores lives only on your device, uninstalling Dial-X deletes all of it — favourites, recents, custom shortcuts, and theme preference — permanently and immediately. There is nothing on our servers to delete, because nothing was ever sent to us.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this policy (for example, if a future version of the App introduces any form of data collection), we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify users through the App Store / Play Store release notes.

We do not anticipate any changes that would result in data collection — our commitment is to keep this App fully offline and private.
